The Devil is in the Details

I had a really interesting chat with one of my upcoming wedding clients earlier this month. I don't think I ever heard the phrase "Untraditional" used so much in my entire life, and yet, the core value of their upcoming wedding remains exactly what I would want it to be; EACHOTHER!

The key point I wanted to make was that all of the little details that you put into your day, no matter how traditional, or unique, if people don't notice them, its because they're done right!! The tiny little things you spend hours deliberating over are the things people don't mention to you; and why not?! Its because it works. It's because it fits into your day so perfectly that it didn't jump out for the wrong reasons. If you have a day full of subtlety and pastels, then suddenly have a fluorescent yellow table cloth at the reception, its questionable. The pastel table cloth though, nobody would notice it, but it works. It fits. It flows. Of course this example works both ways. You wouldn't expect someone in a bright orange suit to have pastel florals on their tables.

So why do the details that people don't notice matter to me? Well, to prove the above paragraphs completely wrong, it's because I do notice. I can see the flower choice, and the stones in your earrings that bring your entire day together in exactly the way you imagined. I can see the detailing on your invitations that match the edges of your table place cards. I want to capture all of those things.

Flat lays have become increasingly popular in recent years, and you will often find your photographer asking you to bring along your invites, or have the rings ready for where they can be photographed that morning. It's so those little things don't go unnoticed, and when you go back through your gallery, you can enjoy those hours of detail deliberation all over again.
